AmberIndiana.com How it works page
AmberIndiana.com is much more than
just a web site. AmberIndiana.com is an
interactive method of distributing information in a time of need, through the
use of many commonly used internet tools such as e-mail, e-mail to text paging,
and web interfaces.
Here is how it works:
- An Amber alert is deemed necessary by the Police department
using the guidelines outlined in the Local Amber Plan.
- The assigned member of the communications department will
activate the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and start the initial process of inputting the
information, including a photograph, into a web based form
- The form is then submitted to the Data Centers server
- When the servers receive the form they will construct the
alert web site on
www.amberindiana.com, and start sending
faxes and e-mails. The e-mails are
divided into two classes, one for regular e-mail, and another for pagers and
cell phone text messages
- AmberIndiana.com icons that are in place on web sites will
be changed to indicate an alert, and they will direct web surfers to the alert
web site.
- Any updates and corrections to the public information can be
made instantly and additional messages will be appropriately sent out.
- The entire process from submitting the web form, to the
actual notification of the interested parties should only a few minutes, as
fast as 15 seconds in some of our tests.
Delivery time will depend on traffic on the paging and cellular networks
and availability of receiving mail servers.
- Upon the closing of the alert, the issuing Police authority
will complete another web form indicating the completion of the alert.
- Notifications will be sent out.
- The server will replace the alert icons with the standard
AmberIndiana.com icon.
- The AmberIndiana.com web site will return to a normal
informational page.
